JR LABRADOR's stellar collegiate career

Recent visitor to his hometown of Boac, Marinduque is JR Labrador of Brgy. Amoingon where his family lives. (My relatives, their house is just a stone’s throw away from my beach house). But little is known about “JR”, what good things have happened to him since he left for the big city to study, and what he has done for his college, FEU.

For many years now he has actually been making a name for himself, with quite a number of fans, as the ‘King of Back Line Hits’ and team captain of FEU MVT, Tamaraw.

Just a couple of months ago he made it to the sports headlines when the outcome of the 74th UAAP (University Athletic Association of the Philippines), was announced: “FEU, Labrador dethrone UST as men’s volleyball champs!”

“UST came prepared but FEU and Labrador were determined to regain the title and end the Tiger’s four-year reign in the UAAP men’s volleyball tournament”, the GMA Network news item stated.

Labrador, the league's top scorer, tallied 22 hits, four blocks and a service ace and was named Finals Most Valuable Player.

“Ginawa ko talaga dun yung best ko para makuha naming yung trophy.. ngayon lang kami nagchampion sa limang taon ko”. For JR who graduates in October this year in a Physical Education course, it was a fitting conclusion to what has been described as a ‘stellar collegiate career’

Labrador hopes that a national volleyball team for men and women could be formed this year in preparation for the Southeast Asian Games as he wants to be in it, too.
There was apparently no entry for volleyball for the Philippines in last year’s SEA Games.

JR holds a trophy won in another volleyball tournament.

Tamaraws show off their gold.

JR LABRADOR, another of our hometown boys who did well. Congratulations!
